Launching a Culinary Legacy
The Dettol Delhi Street Food Awards 2018, curated by Delhi Food Walks, marked the
launch of the first-ever platform dedicated to recognising Delhi’s street food vendors and their
contribution to the city’s culinary identity. Held on 22nd March 2018 at the American Center,
New Delhi, the awards celebrated exceptional street food while encouraging responsible practices
by linking food culture with hygiene through the BSI / #Mere10Guz initiative.
The objective was to honour vendors across the city, appreciate some of Delhi’s most loved
street food, and promote awareness around cleanliness and safe food handling.The lead-up to the
awards generated strong public and digital engagement through a curated influencer food walk in
Old Delhi in September 2017, supported by on-ground hygiene initiatives and live social media
coverage, along with national media attention from NDTV.
The awards evening brought together respected voices from diplomacy and food journalism,
including Craig Dicker, Rahul Verma, and Sourish Bhattacharya, and featured live food stalls by
iconic vendors such as Lotan Chole Kulche, Netaji Chaat, and Kuremal ki Kulfi. Together, these
elements established the Delhi Street Food Awards as a landmark moment in celebrating,
validating, and elevating Delhi's street food culture.
